Emerging Market Opportunities -
The location in Tehachapi, California strategically places the wind power Industries in the center of many of the oldest wind farms in the United States. Many are due to be decommissioned and replaced with larger multi-megawatt units over the next several years. Our current clients in Tehachapi, Altamont pass to the north and Palm Springs to the south, each represent approximately one third of (the soon to be) surplus wind turbine inventory. Roughly 15,000 aging turbines that have served their domestic purposes can be acquired for pennies-on-the-dollar. WindPower Innovations is perfectly positioned to become the premier company in the region to refurbish, rebuild and recondition these older wind turbines and prepare them for resale in many emerging markets, both domestically and internationally. Markets that otherwise would not have the opportunity to benefit from wind energy.
WindPower Innovations is in the process of purchasing decommissioned turbines (including the tower, the blades and related spare parts and accessories) and will begin the rebuilding, recondition and marketing of these units immediately. The company will also provide “in house” dynamometer testing of all gear boxes that are processed through the our facilities, ensuring the highest level of mechanical efficiency and stability.

We provide cost-effective preventative maintenance, “in-air” services and inspections (maintenance and service to a wind turbine while it is mounted on top of the pylon – in service). Capabilities also include the maintenance of multi-stage oil-filtration for turbine gearboxes, as well as ground based turbine systems monitoring and oil-changing equipment.
Remanufacture
With orders for new wind turbines taking up to 2 years to fill, re-engineered turbines and gearboxes keep your operation more profitable, and can be back in service in weeks not years. In many cases we will have a replacement ready to go, reducing the cost of crane services. We rebuild all our gearboxes to standards that meet or exceed the original engineering specifications.
SUBIDARIES

Energetic Drives, LLC is our mechanical and electrical engineering group, which has designed a method to convert DC electrical current into AC current, readily acceptable to the electric grid.
Energetic Drives engineers develop custom solutions that match the best motor/generator for a given location, wind potential and turbine used. We have the ability to model many possible scenario that will allow our clients to model multiple motor/generators and wind studies for a single turbine to determine the most efficient and profitable solution for their operation. The data is entered and the software then generates six wind models for use with the entered motor/generators. Summary information about the energy generated, turbine limits and each motor/generator are then shown. Information about the turbine, each wind model, each motor/generator and the energy generated by each scenario is created, optimizing your operation for Smart Grid compatibility.
Wind Turbine Systems -
Our wind turbine systems and controls give us the ability to provide system optimization to your current wind turbine generator and controls.
Some of our system optimization services include:
- Control panels for power production and integration
- Remote site control using the latest SCADA software packages
- System optimization using Finite Element Analysis, 2D Auto-cad drawings, 3D drawings and Solid Works 3D system virtual design
- Electrical control drawings
- Panel building to UL 508
Grid-Tie Inverters -
Energetic Drives uses the highest quality drives and grid-tie inverters available which clean the power produced by the generator and synchronizes this power to the input line voltage. In addition, the grid-tie inverter allows us to produce clean power through a larger usable range of the turbine’s generator (900 rpm to 2,100 rpm) and we are compliant with IEEE standards 519 and 1547.
Permanent Magnet Technology -
Energetic Drives also uses permanent magnet technology, we provide direct-drive, gearless transmission solutions for wind turbines. Coupling this with the grid-tie inverter provides us with a state-of-the-art energy production solution competitive with any other system available today. The direct-drive solution is available in sizes up to 394 KW. For applications above 394 KW, we have designed a low speed, low maintenance gearbox that allows for the mounting of up to four generators to a single turbine shaft, resulting in a very cost effective, high-power rated turbine design. Traditional gearbox designs require chillers, forced compression of oil pressure and other advanced functions as well as multiple stages that are very failure prone. This is not necessary with the 145 RPM 3.866:1 ratio gearbox designed for the permanent magnet generators used by Energetic Drives.
Low Ratio Gearboxes -
Energetic Drives has designed a series of low ratio gearboxes that fit our low speed permanent magnet generators. The torque transfer required in these unique gearboxes is the motivating factor behind this patent pending design.
Traditional gearbox designs utilize multiple stages (as many as 4 separate stages), large ratios (up to 69:1 or more) and high speeds (1500-1800RPM). Energetic Drives design philosophy allows us to produce gearboxes for wind turbines Rated 250KW to 1.5MW maintaining consistency throughout the range.
Energetic Drive Team Members -
Each member of the founding staff has at least 20 years of experience in their chosen industry: business, sales, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology. The Chief Engineer for Energetic Drives, Dr. Semion Stolyar, has over 70 global engineering design patents and is the chief architect of Energetic Drives patent-pending gearboxes for permanent magnet generators.
GTS, INC
The mission of GTS, Inc. is to provide cost-effective preventative maintenance and quality solutions for custom wind turbine and gearbox rebuilds. We rebuild all our gearboxes to standards that exceed the original engineering specifications.
GTS, Inc., currently operates two facilities are equipped to maintain, repair and refurbish turbines, blades and towers along with a state-certified welding facility. GTS has a unique focus and expertise in custom rebuilding of wind turbine gearboxes. No other company that we are aware of is dedicated exclusively to this work or does custom rebuilding. Too often “standard practice” is to merely replace worn parts with standard replacements and return the gearbox to the manufacturer’s original specifications with no improvements made to the original design. There is little to be gained by simply replacing a part with another exact duplicate part. We prefer to offer our customer the option of a premium upgrade.
At GTS, we custom engineer and retrofit all parts that need replacement. We rebuild all our gearboxes to standards that exceed the original engineering specifications. The ability to offer our customers significant upgrades and retrofits, and our custom-engineered equipment and quality testing procedures put us ahead of our competition.
Gearboxes –
We do more than just replace parts. GTS is a company that takes great pride in finding and analyzing problem areas in a gearbox and then providing superior engineering solutions.

WIND POWER INDUSTRY
WIND IS FREE, IT’S RENEWABLE, AND IT’S CLEAN!

“With generating capacity at over 25,000 MW, U.S. wind power already supplies enough electricity to serve the equivalent of nearly 7 million average households. Although wind power provided over 1.25% of the nation’s electricity in 2008, it is capable of providing 20% of the country’s energy by 2030.” Source powerofwind.com
The U.S. market for small wind energy systems is prospering, expanding 15% last year and accounting for about half of the units sold in the entire world, the American Wind Energy Association recently announced, highlighting findings from its annual Small Wind Turbine market study. Small wind systems are defined as those with rated capacities of 100 kilowatts (kW) or less, and are used primarily to power individual homes, farms, and small businesses.
For the last ten years worldwide wind turbine sales have grown approximately 29% annually. Wind power is now the world’s fastest growing source of energy. For the next twenty years it is expected to expand at double-digit rates.
In 2009, wind installations increased by 39% – source: American Wind Energy Association (AWEA).
The US Dept. of Energy, the American Wind Energy Association and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory believe that 20% of the nation’s electricity can come from renewable wind energy within the next twenty years. This would result in cumulative U.S. wind turbine sales of over $250 billion, which with the rate of equipment failure will add many business opportunities for the company.
